All ready to go!Well, after taking Jacob to a Dial screening in town which pretty much tests his Comprehension/Motor/Language skills i've decided to send Jacob to preschool! He did okay on motor as we all knew he would, but his comprehension and language skills are only at about 30% in relation to his classmates which means he's at about where 30% of his class is, there are 30% below him and 70% above him in skills... so i figured why not!! If anything being around older kids will help him improve so he'll be ready for kindergarten. He started on Monday and loved it! I of course went with him and stayed for the first hour and a half and then after seeing that he's doing just fine i decided to go home. He goes from Mon-Fri from 8-11a... He loved it!!!
Hx of his class: He's in a class with 20 other kids, 3 of whom are disabled, I believe from what i viewed that one girl may be slightly deaf and possibly a little blind? , 1 probably autistic who just yelled and clapped alot, and then 1 in a wheelchair with Cerebral palsy.. The preschool program is an "inclusion" program so that all kids learn together despite level of education needed. He is in a classroom with 3,4, and 5 yr olds and he is definitely the baby of the class.. About a foot shorter than everyone else and probably the only one that doesn't know how to read his own name! Goodness, he just turned 3, is he already supposed to know how to read his name???? Anyway, the teachers were really calm with him when he wanted to get up instead of sit in a circle and Jacob behaved soooo well and played sooo well with the other kids! I was definitely impressed..
And for a Jacob funny as my family likes to call it.. They are learning about dinosaurs this week, couldn't be more perfect right!!! he just got a huge dinosaur for his bday and they were reading a book about dinosaurs and the teacher mentioned that dinosaurs are carnivores and like to eat meat and jacob jumps up and says "He eats meat! He eats meat! dinosaurs eat meat!" and then had to run over to tell me that dinosaurs eat meat!!! He was sooo excited to learn what they ate.. and jacob's been telling me this at home now. Apparently during recess the teacher also blows a whistle and the kids have to put the balls back in the basket and also they must have sung a 10 little piggies song as jacob started singing "10 little piggies jumping on the floor, Jacob's a big boy who goes to school, no more piggies jumping on the floor" I am sure he made up part of that, but ive never sang him that song before! He does come home with homework, already!, and so we worked on that last night, it was coloring and connecting snowflakes, singing a snowman song and playing a game.. it was great!! I also made a thankyou card for the teachers for letting me and leah sit in and then a letter about what would be most helpful to them to work with jacob at home.
When the teacher brought Jacob out to my car after school, they told me he did wonderful and peed on the potty too.. He was happy and said he wants to ride the school bus and go back.. too bad we have a SNOW DAY today!!
